Filming Begins on New Project - 2002/11/15

Update: The Uber Week

Thanksgiving week turns into a manic filming schedule

PLOTCEBO HQ, Mo. (Dec. 3, 2002)--There seems to be a lack of words in the author's vocabulary to describe the past week of Plotcebo activity. To clarify, it has been an extremely hectic and fast-paced seven days of fury. A long time has passed since the group has been so active. Not a day went by without at least a short meeting to revise the script or patch up a few props. Even Thanksgiving was not devoid of movie related work.

To put things in perspective, really good days of shooting often yields about thirty minutes of shot footage. Several days over the past week, we had covered 45 to 50 minutes of good footage. Needless to say, the group is exhausted as well as a little frustrated, from the unrelenting schedule. Overall, though, spirits are fairly high.

Early in the week proved very utilitarian. Several scenes and plot lines were finalized and shot providing a strong morale boost, which became the foundation for the rest of the week's feverish pace. As in good Plotcebo fashion, the script turned towards toilet humor and gratuitous male nudity. This tended to creep out other restroom-goers who were not so accustomed to having a camera next to them while they urinate (amateurs).

Friday rolled around with a bright start, and the gang spent most of the day out as Cosmo Park. Temperatures reached up into the 50's, making it bearable to exposed skin. After nightfall, shooting moved indoors and continued for several hours until battery drain forced us to retire for the evening.

To contradict itself from the day before, the temperature for Saturday never rose above the upper 20's, with a continuous wind of about 10mph that easily ripped through five layers of winter protection, let alone the actors who wore nothing but cut-off t-shirts. Of course, most of the scenes needing shooting were outdoors. Sadly, a lot of mistakes were made during the filming on this day. Not being able to concentrate due to the biting cold as well as fumbling with the small buttons of the camera with bulky winter gloves. However, the lack of quality was made up for in quantity. When light failed, the filming moved to the interior for some of the week's most provocative shots. When the night wrapped up, everyone was pumped.

Sunday proved to be warmer, but Les Resistance was in full force. Although some good scenes were finished up in the morning, wouldn't ya know it, by the afternoon the camera equipment got locked inside a friend's pad. This led to a rather stressful break waiting for it to be sprung. When shooting started up again, not a whole lot of light remained before the group retired to an evening of Steel Battalion and Vice City.

Overall, the amount of ground covered during the week is incredible and everyone is fairly excited. However, there still remains a bit of the film left to shoot, and due to the constraints of winter, the question remains whether or not the desired footage can be obtained. The film may have to be completed 'creatively' by piecing together a new storyline with what has already been shot. Either way, everyone involved has to admit to having had a good time and would like to thank everyone who's involved themselves in the project (or at least refrained from hampering its progress). Especially, kudos to all of you fans who have kept up on these updates. Hopefully we'll have a new film for you one day.
